Review from SlaughterHouse:
PICK OF THE DAY - 07/09/99 |
CDROM Security
Talk about running late, I’ve got a grand total of roughly twenty minutes to write this pick today before I head to Baltimore for the day to do a little sight seeing and goofing off. Now originally I had just sort of planned to write it when I got home but lets face it, when I get back later tonight the last thing in the world I’m going to want to do is write a review so might as well try to sneak it in now. It’s really early as I write this so if sounds some what incoherent, that’s why. However just because this review is going to be short, don’t think that the program I’ve selected today is any less worthy of your time. CDROM Security is, as you can guess from the name, a security program for your computer that you can use to restrict access to your CDROM drive. In effect what it does is give you the ability to specifically select which CD’s can and can not be used in your computer’s CD-ROM drive. You can chose to make a restricted list or go the opposite direction and make a list of only certain CD’s that are allowed to run, everything else is stopped in its tracks. CDROM Security will monitor the drive and check at a periodic rate to ensure no outlawed CD’s are inside. If any are detected they are instantly ejected and an optional warning message is displayed to alert the offender that they tried to run an off limits CD. The uses for CDROM Security are numerous, anywhere where you need to restrict access to CD’s that may be inappropriate. For example in schools, businesses, etc, restricting users from installing software such as games or running music CD’s might be just what’s needed to ensure everything is running smoothly. For home use it’s great too. Parents can restrict the types of CD’s their kids (or spouse, if you’re ballsy) can use. You could for instance allow them to use game CD’s but outlaw them from using CD’s you may have burned yourself. Well I can see the first rays of morning light starting to creep into my window so that means it time for me to get off my butt and get ready to roll. Hmm, now the big question that arises is whether I should grab a Pop Tart or some cold Chinese food for breakfast (beef fried rice). Decisions, decisions…
